Hip Pain (Adults)

Most hip pain we see has a biomechanical origin. A structural short leg (a genuine difference in bone length) can cause the longer leg to jam into the hip joint, contributing to conditions like tendonitis, bursitis and osteoarthritis. Alternatively, if one foot pronates more than the other, that leg can effectively shorten, making the other leg functionally longer, leading to a similar pattern of hip pain.
Our Approach
Tight muscles in the lower limb can also contribute and are assessed as part of a full biomechanical assessment, which looks to identify whether a structural or functional leg length difference or another mechanical factor is contributing to your hip pain.
Treatment Options We Offer
- Custom orthotics and, where relevant, heel lifts to help address leg length differences
- Targeted stretching for tight lower limb muscles
- Foot mobilisation
