Matched to your foot and weight
How firm the orthotic needs to be depends on how far your foot rolls in and on your body weight. The higher of the two decides.
Prescribed devices that change how your foot meets the ground. Manufactured on site at our Kirrawee head office.

A custom orthotic is made to your prescription, not picked off a shelf. It is designed to change the way load passes through the foot and up the leg, based on what the biomechanical assessment found.
People whose assessment shows the way they load the foot is driving their pain — commonly heel pain, arch pain, forefoot pain or knee pain that traces back to the foot.
An orthotic is a device that changes the ground to suit the individual needs of the person, child or adult.
Three levels of orthotic
A generic pre-made insole. It offers little correction, does not last long and does not correct the forefoot.
Moulded with heat to your ideal foot position, in soft, medium or firm densities.
Made to a cast of your feet in the ideal position. Casts are taken standing, as they have been in our clinics since 1990.
How firm the orthotic needs to be depends on how far your foot rolls in and on your body weight. The higher of the two decides.
You might have one pair of glasses for driving and another for reading. Running shoes, work shoes and flats may each need a different style of orthotic.
The arch should not flatten like a pancake under thumb pressure, and the orthotic should sit stable on a flat surface. If it rocks, it needs balancing.
Tight muscles work like a kink in a hose, blocking the correction. Plans often add dry needling, massage, stretches, mobilisation or shockwave, sometimes for a few weeks before orthotics are made.
Custom Orthotics is prescribed against a diagnosis, never against a symptom. That is what the Najjarine Biomechanical Assessment is for.
The assessment establishes what your foot is doing under load and why it is causing pain where it does.
We take the prescription and the device is manufactured at our Kirrawee head office rather than sent away.
You come back for fitting and adjustment. Orthotics are normally paired with footwear advice so the device is not working against your shoes.

Usually 7 to 10 days. They are manufactured at our Kirrawee head office rather than sent to an external lab.
That is part of the prescription. Bring the shoes you wear most to your appointment so the device is made for them.
An off-the-shelf insole is a generic shape. A custom orthotic is made to a prescription from your own assessment, to change a specific problem the assessment identified.
There is usually a break-in period. Your podiatrist will tell you how to introduce them and will adjust the device if needed.
Yes, under most extras policies. We have HICAPS, so the rebate comes off at reception. Check your own limits with your fund.
Made on site and fitted the same week. Adjusted them once and they have been comfortable since.
I had chemist insoles for two years doing nothing. These were made for my actual foot and the difference was obvious.
They asked to see the shoes I actually wear, which nobody had done before. Makes sense in hindsight.
